What is 3D printing and how much does it cost in Colombia?.
3D printing makes an object layer by layer from a digital file. At Lío, the price of a piece depends on three things: a fixed fee per piece, the grams of material used and the hours the printer needs. That is why a small, lightweight piece costs less, while a large or solid one costs more. With our formula, a small piece (about 15 g and 1 hour of printing) costs US$ 4.60, and a medium piece (about 80 g and 4 hours) costs US$ 13.55.
What is 3D printing?
The printer deposits melted plastic (filament) or cures resin with light, layer by layer, to form the piece. It can make one or a few units without molds: prototypes, spare parts that are no longer available, scale models, personalized gifts and decorations.
Most pieces are printed with filament: PLA, PETG or TPU. Resin is used when very fine detail is needed, such as for figures and miniatures.
What determines the price
We calculate the price of every piece using the same formula: a fixed fee per piece (setting up the printer and checking the piece), material based on the grams used, and printing time based on the hours needed. The result is rounded.
If the piece needs modeling because you do not have a file, modeling is quoted separately based on its complexity. Shipping is also separate: it is calculated according to the destination city and package weight, and you always know the cost before paying.
| Example | Approx. material (g) | Approx. printing time (h) | Price |
|---|---|---|---|
| Small piece | 15 | 1 | US$ 4.60 |
| Medium piece | 80 | 4 | US$ 13.55 |
| Large piece | 250 | 10 | US$ 35.15 |
Examples calculated using the same formula as our shop. The exact price depends on your piece and is provided in your quote; shipping is added separately.
What makes a piece cost more
Its size and how solid it is (more grams of material), printing time (tall or highly detailed pieces take longer), and whether it needs modeling. If you need many units, let us know when requesting a quote.
Materials
PLA for decorations, scale models and gifts; PETG for functional pieces or those exposed to sun and water; TPU for flexible pieces, and resin for the finest detail.
- PLA
- The everyday choice. Nice finish and lots of colors.
- PETG
- Tougher and handles sun and water. For parts that do real work.
- TPU
- Flexible, rubber-like. Cases, bumpers, gaskets.
- Resin
- Ultra-fine detail for figurines, jewelry and miniatures.
How long it takes
A small piece is usually ready in 24 to 48 hours. Large batches and pieces that need 3D modeling take a few extra days; we always confirm the delivery date before starting.
Shipping with Coordinadora takes between 1 and 6 days, depending on the city.
When it makes sense and when it does not
It makes sense for one-off pieces, small quantities, complex shapes and personalized items: names, logos or exact dimensions. For thousands of identical pieces, molding (plastic injection molding) is usually cheaper; if that applies to your project, we will tell you.
